My mare was shod about 4 weeks ago but whilst she was having a hoolie in the manege on saturday she pulled a shoe. I managed to get hold of my farrier who came out yesterday and put another one on for me.

Do you pay your farrier if he comes out for one shoe only? I have to say that my chap has never charged me for doing this although I always offer and yesterday I did shove some money in his pocket to say thank you.

I am of the opinion that you should pay unless the horse looses a shoe within a very short space of time after being shod. I have a very good farrier who I look after ( by that I mean plenty of cups of tea lol) He's very rarely late but on the other hand he's not always the most cheerful. However yesterday he had plenty of christmas cheer and was very chatty!

I think the farrier should come out and replace it for free. Although I once begged the farrier to come out on a sunday night to nail shoe back on so I could compete the next day, He deserved a big tip

i don't pay but then i never get change when i have refits so i figure it all works out over the year... (i have a lot of lost shoes!)

We get them put back on for free within a week of been shod, after that it's £15. He has done it a few times after 2 or 3 weeks and refused to take money off us though, he always comes out within 24 hours (barring weekends) of us calling too so he's quite good that way, he's great with my nervous andsilly one to so it's worth it!

My farrier will re fit if horse looses his shoe within a week of shoeing. Horse's shoe has slipped and needed refitting and he did it for free despite my almost thrusting some money at him.

I have a very good farrier and he has kept hoss sound now for 7 years.

Ours charges, but only petrol money tbh. If he needs to make a new shoe, depends what sort of mood he is in to how much it costs

He is excellent though

My horse has never lost a shoe in the middle of a cycle, either just after shoeing or just before he is due. He lost a shoe 3 days after and my farrier was unable to get out to put it back on so he arranged for another farrier in the area (who shoes 2 horses in my yard) to replace it for me. There was no charge for this either. The only other time he lost a shoe was just before he was due, and I waited for the farrier to do the whole yard - this was only a couple of days. Thankfully my horse doesn't lose shoes very easily
