Hi hi, Ok so my little pony has come in from the field covered in lumps right under his chin and now progressing down his neck his face and his chest...any one got a clue what they might be?

Sounds like hives - as an allergic reaction to something? Could he have eaten anything that might have caused it, or perhaps got a sting? Is he well in himself otherwise? They might be very itchy for him so it might be worth contacting your vet to get some type of anti-hystimine to help take some of the itch and reaction away. If he is showing any other symptoms other than just the lumps then I would get the vet out.

I think it will be a reaction to nettles. My horse came in with huge swellings under his chin and on his cheeks which then spread down the neck. Obviously we panicked about his airway and at 9pm at night could not leave him like that so called out the vet. He had a steroid shot and it all went down fairly quickly.

Then within a few days other horses were getting it, basically we worked out it was from them grazing in nettle patches. Some are more allergic than others.

We have always just given the horses piriton (about 10 for 14hh cobby type). The vets actually reccomended them for my dog when it had a reaction. Also it saves a HUGE bill from the vets!!
