However some of these will be because riders can only ride 2 horses at the event, so will leave it til late to decide which two of their qualified horses they will take. For example William Fox-Pitt is competing Seacookie and Navigator, so still has two rides.

The ground there shouldn't be hard. After the awful going a few years ago they now keep the course fenced off from the deer and keep it watered, aerated and mown, It should give perfect fast going if they have got it right.

Don't think you'll find it's due to the ground, the going there will be perfect due to the course being fenced off, watered, airovated etc

Most of that list are because they'd entered more than two horses and are only allowed two xx

If you go on the Badminton website there are videos/pictures of them watering the course with sprinklers. I can't believe the going would be anything but good. Surely they learned their lesson a few years ago.

I don't think anyone has yet withdrawn since the trot-up? In which case, this list is just the people / horses who wouldn't have been going round anyway. I really don't see how the ground could be too hard, they do SO much work to the going on the course after that time a few years ago when it was rock solid that I don't think it could possibly be too hard.

The withdrawals you need to look out for are the ones after the dressage ;)

I think you'll also find with riders like William Fox-Pitt and Oliver Townsend that as Kentucky is next weekend, they have horses already out there acclimatising and preparing for that event.

Actually not as many have withdrawn as in previous years. This is mainly due to the Olympics coming up. This year it is something like 18 and in previous years it is around 35 to 40 withdrawals.

Withdrawals closed at 6pm on Wedbesday evening and those 18 spaces were filled from the waiting list....my friends instructor was 19 on the list - GUTTED!

Does that mean badminton will be cancelled. Think not and all that fuss over the Grand National, hope they have plenty of water buckets when they get back, but should imagen plenty of horses either pulled up or will be jared.

Just been up to Badminton this evening, there is excellent grass cover and I believe that the going will be good. They have done a huge amount of work on the ground, watering and such like, and infact the ground up there holds moisture well. I can't see a problem at all. The majority of withdrawals are from riders who had declared more than 2 horses.
