Buster has got alot of big scabs all along his spin and his skin is very scurfy.
We took him to the vets a while ago and he was perscribed some ZD hypo allegenic food, which was rather expensive AND he didnt like it!
So Im wondering is anyone else has had this problem and how you managed to solve it, if at all.
Ive tried him on James Wellbeloved and thats done nothing, Ive currently got him on Bakers complete, but have yet to see any results.
So any ideas would be greatly recived.

Oh dear, why not Bakers?

Not tried Burns, Ill try that next.

He was on JWB for a couple of months and if anything, his skin got worse!

One of our terriers had the same symptoms with a wheat allergy (she is now on Autarky) and our cat was scabby with a flea allergy

As above, could be food (wheat, protein, blah) an extreme reaction to fleas or mites, grass or tree pollen, something in your carpet.

I have a scabby dog too, probably going to have him allergy tested at CALA's suggestion once the steroids have worn off.
Masuleb shampoo has been quite good. Or he could just be an OCD stressyhead who likes licking and scratching himself, if only he could tell me!

JWB helped him for a while but he has started doing it again.

Oh my pointer has this problem too. The vet was useless - interesting thing is he is on Bakers too as very fussy about food and wouldnt eat many others.
I thought it could be a deficiency in his diet but of what I dont know. Again he is not itchy.

Zak has little scabs on his back and we have been using malaseb for a few months now.... they are a lot better.

The other thing which helps enourmously is Selsen (or selsun) shampoo for humans... it sort of sloughs the scabs off and leaves nice soft skin
