My horse came in from the field a couple of weeks ago with lots of tiny scabs around his girth area and under his armpit, only on one side. He suffers badly from the flies so always wears a fly rug and has recently been stabled only because the flies have been so bad.
They are kind of like sweat spots but with scabs on top, i have tried shampooing the area with aloe vera shampoo, but they dont seem to be shifting. They haven't got any better or worse and it doesnt seem to bother him.
Any ideas what they could be and how to get rid of them? It definatley isn't caused by my tack as he hadn't been riden for a while before then.

My new horse has just come up in exactly the same thing. It doesn't look like a girth gall, but it doesn't look like ringworm either. Can't help sorry but I'm also really interested in what they are.

Sweat rash. You need to be religious about washing off the sweat when you ride. Mine gets it under her armpits too so again wash under there after you have finished riding. Some horses just have more sensitive skin.

Months ago, he has been off with an injury. he could have got sweaty in the field i suppose, it is actually starting to look a little better with regular grooming and washing.
