Our hyper TB mare seems to wee a LOT when she is on the yard. EG, bring her in from the field - tie up - wee, groom her, get tack, wee, also big, smelly poos - very "sour".
When she comes back she does the same. I wondered if she has cystitis, is that possible? Or maybe a digestive problem? Any suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks

Horses can get cystitis. My gelding is prone to it as the PH of his urine is too alkali. Watch the urine stream particularly the start and the end. If it is dark in colour at the start or end it is possibly a urinary tract infection. If dark throughout it is higher up - bladder or kidneys. If she wees that much it should be easy to get a sample. Buy a sterile sample jar from chemist or ask the vet and get it tested by the vet. It could be just a nervous habit but it would be worth getting checked if you are concerned.

mine does same, however mine has been diagnosed with an ovarian tumor and is due to have ovary removed in a few weeks, I dont know if its something to do with her hormones being all over shop due to tumor? but she wees on concrete every time. I thought mares didnt like the splash! She only started doing it last few months (when seemed to be in season all time)

Can you tell me if your mare also got more hyper in her work? Ours is very easily distracted, spooky, etc. Also when daughter got on yesterday, mare really dipped her back, which I had not seen before. Daughter is a very experienced lightweight rider, so not caused by rider thumping down on her.

er, yes. very hyper. she very spooky, easily distracted. she doesnt dip back when get on, but does if you brush a bit hard over her loins. she gets very tight over her back - which isnt great for a dressage horse!- she was getting seasons closer and closer together and it ended up that she was having 4 days clear out of season. She was also so distracted when leading and stuff that would stand on me etc - not her fault its her hormones. when she out of season she is so lovely.
I decided to have a marble fitted (it goes in her uterus and fools body into thinking its pregnant and therefore doesnt ovulate) So off she went to vets (he wanted her in stocks as she a cow with back end) - they scan first just to check and hey ho - found a granulosa tumor on the left ovary. So on sept 12th she will have it removed and hopefully after that she will be all sweetness and light again!!! (touch wood!!!)

If you concerned its to do with her ovaries or hormones it may be worth having a scan - it cost me £134 - that was at the vets.
