they can do some amazing acrobatics in the field can’t they ! My mare Aria managed to throw herself through a fence earlier this year. She was so sore and really quite lame from the shoulder . Vet check, physio, few weeks rest and a nice vet bill and she was back to normal . Hope Lottie is the same x

In some ways I was relieved I saw the microcob misjudge her brakes and hit a fence in the field because when she came up sore I knew what had happened. I'm keeping fingers crossed rest is all Lottie needs and you'll have your jumping partner back to full fitness soon.

Fingers crossed she's just a bit sore from something simple and will be back to Lottie normal soonest.

Hi thank you for asking! Physio saw her again yesterday and she was significantly less sore over those areas. So she lasered again and I’m still keeping the appt for the work up at vet tomorrow. Hopefully vet will say I am massively over-reacting! And she just tweaked something trivial and is fine. She is never shy about letting you know something isn’t right! Do hopefully I’ll get reassuring feedback tomorrow

About the bext outcome possible... other than nothing being wrong. But then I'd still be wondering why she was refusing. So an answer is better than 'she's fine'.

Vet thought hocks, with back issues caused by compensatory movements. And refusals probably because back went into spasm occasionally and she decided she can't jump. Hocks have probably niggled for a while. Diagnosis confirmed by blocking her and they have been injected with steroids. Back feels fine after a week off and the physio.

She is not concerned at all about the hocks, but does say that as she will now use herself differently again (as her trot on the lunge after blocking was much more floaty and elevated) so her back may stiffen up where the old injury was. So I just need to keep an eye on that. Other than that, she should be back to her normal self in a few days, as the injection works super fast.

Plus eye wateringly expensive joint supplements, to go with the eye wateringly expensive gut ones.... But hey it's only money. 🤣

What a relief!

Not sure how I missed this, but I'm glad to read it's all sorted, and you'll be on the up again soon. Also rather jealous that you got all that sorted in 1 vet trip; that sort of thing usually takes multiple visits for me.

It was at a hospital where she was admitted as a day-case so took a while but yes it was at least all done on 1 day. That vet is very pragmatic. She said she was convinced it was hocks and suggested we block and treat at same time. If not hocks after all, worst outcome would be that she had a bit of steroid she did not need. But she was 99% sure it was hocks. Which meant only jabbing Lottie once not twice (useful for a sensitive mare) and saving a load of time. And she was right. She has such a good eye. x

Good to hear a vet getting straight to the problem and treating it. Hopefully onwards and upwards now.
Do you have to ease her back into work or just crack on?

She said give her tomorrow off then crack on. She's barely has any time off so has not lost muscle or fitness. And the steroid works pretty much immediately.

What a pragmatic vet - I need one like that.

Hopefully she'll bounce back quickly now. What's your pricey joint supplement?

Science Supplements Flexibility +. And BozMerix for the competition season if she needs something else.

She said any supplement with hyaluronic acid, glucosamine and chondroitin would be fine.

Yes she had SI injected then treated with H wave.

My physio has a K4 laser which seems very good. Saddle was checked very recently and fitted to be perfect with my Equitex. Which I now use all the time. Feet are due next week so maybe they are getting a bit long. She is booked in for a ' full work up' next Wednesday but as you say where do they start? I don;t want her to be injured (though I already know there is a problem) but I hope Holly can find a place that is clearly different to how it felt on Friday. So we have something to go on.

How long ago was SI medicated?

Lottie was awesome today. Took her to Somerford and hired a 20x60 arena to practice the dressage (it’s a long -arena test) then a short rest in the shade for water/hay then a play on 80 acres, just to check that out, as I’ve not jumped her XC since jabs. Lovely, relaxed and obedient in the dressage then fired up and confident on the 80 acres - Locking on, jumping fluently. Finishing with a big smile on her face! Old Lottie vibes. Hurrah x
