What happens, from the insurance/money point of view, if said horse makes full recovery and is able to partake in the same disciplines at it did prior to the claim? Also would you buy a LOU horse, claimed but didnt have the problem anymore? And finally can you compete a horse with LOU claimed? Thanks guys.

a LOU horse will basically be uninsurable for anything other than 3rd party cover and possibly accidental vet fees and death but latter unlikely.

might buy a LOU horse depends on its history a vetting and what I wanted it for on the understanding insurance near impossible.

Yes you can compete a LOU horse. there is a top JA pony that has had LOU claimed against it. Remember all LOU horses in the UK are branded with a L in a circle normally on their shoulder so very recogniseable

The horse in question has won quite a bit and should obviously be a lot more expensive than she is... just unsure if its really worth going down that road, especially as its to do with a leg. Oh really, which pony is that, do you know what it was LOU'd for at all? Thanks for all your help.

I have a LOU horse, he is still fully insured but for hacking / schooling only (I think) and for a lower value. The LOU was for eventing as he damaged a ligament in his foot and his report stated he should only work on good surfaces in the future, ie no x-country. My ins co said they would not take on new LOU horses but would continue to insure exisiting horses (Pet Plan: highly recommended!). I got 60% LOU so they were happy to re-insure for up to 40% of the original value. He has exclusions on all tendon and ligament injuries of front legs, otherwise fully insured. He is now competing dressage and with careful management remains sound :-)

Depends what the problem was in the first place I would imagine...

If the horse has had a 'curable' condition, and you could get veterinary evidence in writing that the horse is cured, then the insurance company might lift an exclusion, but I think you might struggle tbh.
Sorry, not much help am I?
