Hello

Well after much ringing about I can have:
KBIS - £3000 vets fees for external injuries and colic (£125 excess) and £1M liability
or
Shearwater - £3000 vets fees for everything (excluding hocks) (£125 excess or 15%) and 1M liability

I don't know either company - Shearwater price is obviously slightly more (£50) but I'm thinking of going with them

What do you think?

Has anyone had dealings with either company?

Thank you for your help

I've used KBIS for years although I don't do vet cover. They have always been very good and paid out very quickly with no hassle on two horses I lost. They very helpful and are all horsey people so will know what you're talking about. Quite a few on here use them.

Hello
No I've tried everywhere:
Pet Plan, NFU and Horse and Rider Insurance Direct will not insure LOU horses
Equestrian Direct, E&L, SEIB, Stoneway will only insure external injuries
KBIS will insure external injuries and cover colic
Shearwater will insure just exclude the hocks!

Thank you for the info on KBIS
I've spoken to a couple of the vets I work with and they say that KBIS and Shearwater have never caused them any trouble when sorting out claims so I'm hopeful that they are good companies.

Im glad youve managed to get cover. What value have they given you for your horse?
Persoanlly id be more interested in the full vet cover rather than just external injuries but thats me

I currently use shearwater for Chancer - he has £5000 of vet fees but I pay the first £500. Keeps the insurance costs down and I am covered should I really hit trouble. They were the best value and price for the insurance I wanted for Chancer.

They were excellent with the several claims I had with Fleur - paid out very promptly.

I've got my lorry with Shearwater, never had to claim though. They used to offer a discount if you were a member of BE.

I think I'm going to go with Shearwater as I really want total vet cover (obviously bar his hocks). I'm glad people have had some good experiences with them

I haven't given him any value - I think they give him a token £500 value though. I'm really not bothered about it as long as I have vet cover and 3rd party liability.

I didnt really realise how difficult it was going to be!
