I turned my section a out after being in for the night and he turned to trot away and I heard a loud pop noise come from him, he immediately held his back leg up, then walked on it a little lame and then seemed fine. Took him in later to check him and walking and trotting in a straight line he is sound as a pound but it short on hind leg when turning in a small circle.

I have felt up and down both legs no swelling, no heat, not reacting to anything.

What could it have been?

TIA

Ligament? Tendon? Probably best to give your vet a little buzz x

It happened on Tuesday morning, I gave him a few days and the only issue I can find is that he is short when turning in a tight circle.

I didn't think it warranted a vet call. But might give them a little phone just to see if they know what it might have been as it was quite loud. x

The most likely cause is gas in a joint, like someone cracking their knuckles. It's not anything to worry about if it's just that.
I'd keep an eye on him and phone vet if you're worried.

Thank you! I have never heard any other horse make that noise so was curious. I will try and check him again this weekend (yard is icey now).
