This evening I am sporting a lovely black eye, My boy has been being as good as gold the last few weeks, perfect in dressage, hacking alone and even jumped really easily and well for me last week during our bounce jump lessons. But, today the crazy beast returned for our jumping session. We were jumping 3 jumps set out width wise in the arena, so you jumpedin a serpentine shape. Started off well just doing one jump he was nice and calm, went up to two not bad, did three get a little bit strong and playful. Then all of sudden decided something was spooky (same place as always)then it was like jumping a horse with a rocket stuffed up his bum. I did not do too badly even being bucked and cantered around between jumps, trying to get back control. Then we doubled back to make 5 jumps and on the last one, I don't know what happened but he obviously unseated me and I clung onto his neck. I just thought I am screwed if he does his highspeed canter and buck business, but he just stopped with such force that I smacked myself in the face with my crop and have a lovely black eye. I remember looking up and everyone so shocked he had stopped and not tried to get me off (good boy for that). Then one of the teachers got on and she had a tough time of it too, did not look much better that me, so at least that made me feel better. He is only like this when we have tight corners when jumping now, can you stop this or is it just his character? Good for learning to keep your position!!
