My usual farrier had a bad accident 4 months ago and has been off work since then.

In his absence I've been taking horse up to the vet's and leaving him there for the day whilst their farrier does him.

Can't get anywhere because of ice etc so rang farrier this morning as we lost a shoe. He came out within half an hour as he had a cancellation. Did the shoes in good time and said in future just to leave horse in stable whilst I'm at work and he'll come and do him at home to save me loading horse up to vet's.

Very nice man!!

I must admit a lot of people do moan but all the farriers I have ever used have been so good about coming out for lost shoes etc. I must be good at fluttering my eyelashes!!

Have to say that I've never had a bad farrier (apart from those used in an emergency which we did on Christmas Eve hence horse losing shoe!!).

My old farrier in Leicestershire was a legend and is a great mate and actually got OH and I together and if it wasn't for him, we wouldn't have got engaged on Christmas Day!!

I'm also lucky because the three farriers I've used regularily over the years have all been brilliant at remedial farriery and have talked through everything with me and shown me things so I have learnt a lot. The main thing I've learnt though is to be a good client and book the farrier in advance and have your horse shod regularily to avoid shoes falling off and irate phonecalls. Makes life far easier!!

Id like to marry a vet, farrier and livery yard owner please

If you married a vet you could probably afford to have your own yard, lots of horses, and pay your farrier as well! I did consider marrying the vet, but on balance I felt I needed a farrier more often

Mind you, the vet was better looking - and younger - don't tell J I said that

I'm guessing your "lovely farrier" isn't the "evil farrier" rumoured to be selling a beautiful field and barn in central Brockham, Surrey to travellers then....that farrier cannot be lovely...see www.brockham.org. He is demanding £160,000 for 2.5 acres else the gypsies get it. How can he live with himself?
