Hi all!!

First, I've got a HUGE bottle of wine to share, so wine and haribos to all! :D

I can't stop chuckling so I thought I'd share this little tale with you.

Daughter had a lesson with an AWESOME instructor last week, who is working really hard on teaching Daughter and Dolly how to bend nicely, use backend and have a better head shape, eventually hoping to achieve something like an outline.

Instructor tried Dolly in a different bit - a neue schule (sp?) universal bit. She went much much better and daughter described her head like she was floating!!:o:p She said (and bearing in mind this is 11 year old child language) that Dolly was really light and she felt like she didn't have to hardly move her hands - like she was responding to the odd little squeeze.

Now I don't know much about these bits. Whether they are soft or harsh (didn't look harsh) but what I soon found out was that they are ££££££!!!!!

So I had a word with instructor and she said, try it a few more times before buying, and I've been looking at bits of similar shapes, and generally doing a bit (hahaha!) of research in the meantime.

Well OH shouted downstairs before "how big is Dolly's mouth?" to which I gave the answer and thought no more about it.

He's been online and bought her a neue schule bit.:D:p

I had to laugh. He's not a complete novice and is VERY involved in everything we do with Dolly. In fact, he is awesome and me and the two Ds are very lucky. I was just really shocked.

I mean, I don't think I would have bought the bit. It's a lot of money for something that *might* be good and we know very little about. I would have asked instructor to buy it if I was getting one, so I got the right thing!!

He just said "she looked nice in it"!!! :o

Just posting here really to (secretly!) express my deep love for this chap. I mean I read all the posts about people who have "it's me or the pony" problems and OH's that have never been to their yard  and here's mine shelling out hard cash just because he thought Dolly "looked good" in something. I now find out that he'd taken a photo of the one we tried out, against a tape measure, to ensure he could fulfil his plan.

He's such a dude.

This morning he was talking about the day I get a horse. It there was a heart smiliey I'd post it here!!!!

Anyway, no idea if this bit will be good, or if it will fit  but am very impressed with the gesture!!!

Here's my happy Sunday night post! When I get chance, I'll do an update for anyone interested in my riding progress. I've been riding a new pony. A FASTER PONY!!!! Oooooooo I've soooooo got the bug now!!!

:D:D:D

Every girl should have a man in her life who buys things because she looks nice in them....this goes for mares too;-)

That's really lovely of him.

A few years ago my daughter's pony was put in one of those and I managed to get one second hand on ebay, however, it was the wrong thickness! I didn't know they came in different thicknesses, so put it back on ebay and got more for it than what I had paid :)

So just a word of warning, check the thickness of it too.

aw bless ! what a nice man:D:D

He really is you know, a very honest, lovely and genuine one.

Can you have him cloned, there are some others who could do with a lovely chap like him.

Nope. If I have him cloned, I'm keeping the rest for.......educations purposes :o:p

Dolly is his girl. He loves her to bits even if I disapprove when he feeds her revels and minstrels!!! :D

That's exactly what my research told me, and what I was (and am!) concerned about!! Ah well....I didn't pay for it!!! And I think he got a bargain (£75)!!!! :p

That is sooo lovely - he's a keeper ;)

If the neue schule doesn't end up fitting your pony, cotswoldsports do very similar bits for a lot less money.

Nice hubby, whisper in his ear to look on Cotsworld Sport next time though as they are half the price of NS ones and virtually identical.

Lots of smaller ponies go very well in the Universal for jumping, just a little extra control, not dressage legal though...

I always remember when I was 5, my dad used to drive me up to a field with 3 shetlands at the weekend - I used to bring a comb and hairbrush to brush their manes, that christmas I got a grooming kit from santa! Dad knew nothing about horses then - and passed away 2 years ago! This thread has brought memories back about how dads can just be so nice and thoughtful! The following year we went on hols to cork and bless him he pulled out the golden pages and managed to get me my first lessons with robert splaines sister jean who at the time ran a riding school, and that's where it all started...... Sorry op! Not hyjacking your thread just got me thinking.

Replying on phone now so sorry for short reply!! He really is a one off and I'm really lucky to have him and daughter!!!

No need to apologise for high jacking, it's lovely to hear about truly good people who are out there (or have been) makes a change from all the horrors we see/hear/read about day to day.

I KNEW there'd be some sort of "compatible" type bit that had the same action and probably half the price!! That's why I was waiting to see!!! Lol!!!! Oh well!!!!

I was a bit bothered about the "dressage legal" bit too. Couldn't really see the point in schooling in a bit they generally won't be able to use (nevermind pay a fortune for it!!!!) but I've read that lots of people do it, so we'll see!

God I hope it fits!!!!! Lol!!!! Xxxx

Awww what a lovely man :D

The neue schule bits really hold their value, so even if you want to change it in a short while you'll be able to sell on ebay for similar to what you paid for it :)

That's what I'm banking on!

I had a quick look, and I *think* he got a bargain at £75 () so I expect we'd be able to sell it on ok if there was a problem.

He does make me laugh! No way I would have bought it!!! :p Nothing is too good for Dolly - we recently had her clipped (chaser) and he bought her an exercise blanket "to keep her warm" - I did point out it's her chest and shoulders that have been clipped, not her bum, but he pointed out that I wouldn't want to be running round in the cold with my bum on show regardless of whether it was hairy

She does seem to like her blanket....:D

Awwwwwwww so sweet! Good hubby!

Aww bless him :-). Look forward to update on the lessons and the speedy pony!

That is sooo lovely - he's a keeper ;)

We need a like button. What a lovely thread!!

Bless him what a cutie!

What a lovely thing for him to do! !

Aww what a sweetheart :)

THANKS everyone!!! x x x x

Aww, he sounds lovely! :D

Mine moans constantly about the price of anything I ever want to buy - unless its for Arnie! Apparently, if he needs it, he gets it. He also carries a bag of mint humbugs in his car because he often meets us hacking on his way home from work and "Arnie likes his sweeties". Trouble is, Arnie now assumes any blue Subaru is fair game and tries to get his head in their window ;)

Thats so sweet! This is why it sucks to have a horsie OH. All you do is argue about expensive this and that is and he knows what's necessary and what's only necessary in my head! So it's why I like going home to the States and raiding my Stepmom's tackroom. Got a nice Harry Dabbs bridle, Myler Comfort Snaffle, and another Mullen mouth happy mouth.

You've got a good one there. Hang on to him.

Terri

I have a lovely husband to moans like hell about them but when they need saddle rugs or anything he refuses to let them have secondhand or cheap. He always says nothing but the best for my boys. Funny though never see him when time to muck out he never even sees them not sure he could even pick them out in field full of horses
