Lovely people of HHO, please can I have vibes/advice.

I'm in a little dilemna with my old cushings mare :(, shes now 23 and 6 weeks ago we moved to a new yard and area. However due to other circumstances we are moving back to where we came from this coming Saturday. The only problem is the poor old lady appeared last Tuesday to be walking abit slower than usual and more reluctant, so I called the vet out and it was diagnosed as foot soreness.

She has had one lamintis attack about 2 years ago so obviously I always presume the worst! So I was advised 5 days box-rest with two danillon a day and see how she is. However taking on a slight walk today she still seemed reluctant to walk very far. She doesnt seem overly footy and even when the vet hoof tested her last week she didnt react to it. Tried with hoof pick today and still no reaction.

However she also has mild arthiritus so I dont think standing in for 5 days has helped much. I'm just really lost. Calling vet out again tomorrow morning for help. Its just such a worry since I'm hoping on moving her back home next week :(:(:(

my Cushings mare regularly does have foot soreness and farrier/vet has told us many times that it's bruised soles and is common for animals with Cushings/lami (thin soles?). She's never sensitive with us picking her feet out and we think she too gets a bit stiff when she's not had a leg stretch. We've just started her on NAF JointFlex hoping that this will make a difference to her and help keep her moving.
We just take her lead now - if she seems good on her feet, we let her wander and if she doesn't then we just leave her be. She's just started to walk out again with us though.

Give her some time on the Danilon and just listen to what she's telling you, how far she wants to/doesn't want to go. I do hope its just some bruising and she recovers in no time! :)

Awww I'm so glad your mare in on the mend still! You think it would be best to put her in the sand pen for a strech of legs? Shes never been footy before, but I suppose her cushings is getting on! Thank you for the advice x
 
Don't worry they can go on and have a normal span with Cushings. I've just lost my dream horse and best pal at 32 something, I thought that was too soon as he looked not a day over 14. I've also got a 32 year old cushings lodger on the yard as a companion. If her soles are sore she might benefit from shoes for a while to raise the height and reduce bruising , this happens now and again with the lodger and on the advice of our farrier he is shod and he comes right again.

Yeah she was as fit as a fiddle until the soreness came literally from nowhere! Very acute. She is already shod on all four, but only had the newest shoes on about 3weeks ago and was fine. Farrier knew she was a laminitic. I just hate seeing her in any form of discomfort, shes my child haha!

If she suffers from arthritis then keep a rug on her at nights and probably day time so that she keeps nice and warm and does not catch the draught.
I feed my Laminitis/arthritic horse linseed powder as it is meant to be an anti-inflamiatorry and also formula4feet which is meant to be very good for their feet. (Developed by Robert Eustace the specialist Laminitis Vet).
Also make sure that she has a nice thick bed.
You can also fit rubber frog supports again available from robert Eustace or get a specialist farrier to fit stick on plastic shoes.

Thank you, yeah shes all snug in her stable, the formula4feet looks very good will be ordering some of that ASAP. Bed is nice and thick, cost me the earth in shavings though haha!
Probably a stupic question but are those frog supports only for when shes boxed, I'm presuming they are.
