Hi all,
So i have had a share young six yr ol ex racehorse for a couple of weeks now and we have just had a lovely weekend. I rode thursday night in the indoor cos of the wind and he was fab, running a little in the canter transitions but made much worse by my terrible tipping forward habit that has reared its head since starting riding again. I had to work really hard to cure myself of it with my old boy (sold him 6 years ago now) and when he ran I just collapsed forward. I quickley told myself off and sat up and the transitions were much better. Really pleased with him though and he was much more forward and responsive from the leg.
I had a friends wedding on saturday and was worried for the weather after friday, but it was beautifully sunny and we had a great (child free!!) day.
Then i rode again sunday evening in the outdoor for the first tome in the outdoor and it was his first time in the school with another horse. He napped quite a bit to the other horse and we had a small disagreement which resulted in a mini rear so I changed tack and started doing loads more transitions and he settled. He was really forward and a little spooky (horse killing dock leaves lol) but we ended in a good note.
Then being a bank holiday and my oh being around for childcare i went to lunge him today. They have lunged him once and their instructor a few times and he has been a bit strong but he was pretty good today. He did turn in a couple of times and was disunited in his canter transitions a few times but generally was a ood boy.
I like him a lot. I think his owners are frightened that his rearing and nipping might put me off but the rear wasn't really anything and now I know that he may do it i am aware and will quickly change things up a bit if he threatens it again.
A few weeks ago i never thought i was going to bele to ride regularly but with the right situation and a great husband i'm having a great time.
Sorry pointless happy post.
