I hate being hot and sweaty and would much rather have a lightweight waterproof coat and layer up than anything with padding.

I've been searching for a while, I wanted a properly waterproof and breathable one that was a decent length and suitable for riding in. I also didn't want to spend a lot because I only ride in the rain by accident!

A kramer one had been mentioned on here earlier this year so I bought it. It is fabulous. Just a shell with a net lining, nearly knee length, decent hood, two vents and 2 way zip for riding.

My heavy weight Kramer jacket has lasted well over 8 years and I have ridden in it and walked the dogs so it’s had its fair share of pouring rain, it started to leak a bit in a downpour last winter and was about £70 to buy so pretty good value. Mine is a felix buhler one as well . Hope yours lasts as long as mine
 
I have this jacket too and been well and truly rained on in it at the top of a mountain in the Lake District, only very slight leakage via the zips on the front pockets. Absolutely love it and think I’ve also recommended on here before too.

Is the sizing big / small / or pretty accurate. I’m a normal 12.
 
I dream of a breathable waterproof coat! I have a stierna and love it but it’s too heavy for now so I am very tempted by your recommendation!

Stierna are rated 20,000 though and this is 5,000- quite a difference in waterproof rating.

I'm saving to get the summer weight Stierna at the moment and scanning for deals!
 
Does anyone have the slightly different version with the rear centre zip instead? Mine won’t be for riding… and also I’m a solid 16, I bet one size is too big and the other too small.
 
Thought I'd update. Had to get the girlies in, it was pouring down and they were under trees at the other end of our 80 acre field 🙄

I could not possibly have been more wet but the coat didn't leak at all and the length nearly met my wellies so only got mildly damp knees. And not hot and sweaty either, I'm very pleased.

However, for anyone looking for a lightweight waterproof my friend has just bought the lightweight version of the weatherbeeta kyla. I didn't know that existed otherwise I'd probably have gone for that first! It's lovely, prob 4" shorter than mine with same waterproof rating but lower breathability rating. About £40 more expensive too. We'll see whose lasts the best 😊
 
Looks lovely, but not waterproof enough for me. I'm looking for a lightweight but very waterproof (25,000 mm plus) long coat for beating in. I spend 8 hours every weekend up on the Moors and it looks like this is going to be a long, long wet one. I have a Seeland (I need the pockets) and it's useless if it rains longer than an hour (so much for their advertising). It's also too warm until about December. If anyone has any recommendations, please do wing them my way. I don't want a waxed one.
 
I've never seen anything better than the stierna which is 20000 for about £400.

I did try a few from berghaus but didn't think they were sufficiently lightweight.

Equidry mac is supposed to be good but they don't tell you the rating and it's too cheap to be at that level.

Wax is wonderfully waterproof but not at all breathable, I value it for walks in thorny woodland but not much else.

I have just picked a bargain in a summer sale (sorry, I'm in France or I'd share the love) and when I mentioned that on Twitter Eventing on FB, three people said that theirs weren't properly waterproof 😭 It's literally just come, so I can still send it back and if it's really not waterproof, I'll only find out this winter, which will be too late (and I certainly can't afford to buy another).

Yes never a drip has reached me! It’s very warm which is great but I only use it in proper winter.

Phew, that's great news, thank you. It's so beautifully made, I was really sad I might have to send it back! Yes, I'm thinking winter hacking, probably not even lessons, but I have a 10,000 mm rated lightweight Covalliero coat that's good for when it's not so cold.
