I have a beautiful loving (mad as a hatter) staffie lurcher cross. No malice, just wants to please and be fussed ....ALL of the time!
It's the mad licking I can't bear, have tried various tips ( blowing at her face, pushing face away with a firm 'no' etc) but nothing stops her....she will lick what ever part of you she can access but your face is her favorite (yuk!).

She is obedient otherwise, if excitable. Well exercised and we have another dog whom she adores.

Any advice please?

I can't give you any advice as to how to stop her doing that, but I do know if I blow on my Greyhound's face then that will actually make her lick even more. I like being licked so I blow on her face to encourage her. However it actually has the opposite effect on my Lurcher.

Perhaps giving her a stuffed treat toy to lick whenever she starts to lick you might help.

it must be a sbt thing---ours has a nick-name `mr licky-sticky` a family members old dog was also known as `mr licky-sticky`
they just lurve their people :)

I ask for sit,watch,shake paw.......it hasn`t stopped it,just delays it lol

Our sbt x loves to lick people too. We call him 'The Dog of No Boundaries' as he will jump on you, climb over you and lick you in the face. We've been really firm with pushing him down and only giving him attention when he is sat still. I don't think you can ever stop them, it's part of what they do, but he does seem to be learning that being calm gets him attention and is starting to sit and wait of his own accord rather than jumping and licking.

Tbh I find it quite endearing - they really do love their people!

Thanks - definately a SBT thing then!
Treats? She would consume them as fast as I could feed them (bit of a piglet...well a big pig really!)

Oh well, will have to accept that I will always be nice and' lean' then!

PS - said dog is currently passed out on her back snoring - lovely....no licking for a wee while!

Does she know 'leave it' or an equivalent command for 'get your nose off/out of that'? If yes, use it, if no, teach it! If you are ruthlessly consistent (so no allowing a bit of a lick every now and then because it's sweet) she will eventually get the message that licking is not allowed :)

hmmm… we have just perfected the technique to keep the lips clamped shut so our dog cannot actually get her tongue in your mouth. anything else is tolerated. (ok, quite enjoyed!) At 52 there are not a lot of people who want to lick your face, don't knock it :)

oh btw she seems to have a particular liking for Clarins face cream :)
