Considering purchasing a dressage saddle, but my budget wont be huge for a nice secondhand one preferably, around 2/300 ish maybe. Could I find something decent in this range (pref not synth) or worth saving further?
What you looking for I have an Albion slk 18" mw that I can't use ... It's in good nick and available at about your price point.
I bought a really lovely ideal Jessica dressage saddle a few years back for £200 unfortunately it didn't fit either of my horses was too narrow but it was so comfortable and it looked really smart took me ages to put it up for sale I just didn't want to part with it.
why not wait for a while till you get used to your new horse.....he will probably change shape over the first few months of regular riding anyway. why not concentrate on getting to know him with lots of hacking and a few lessons to put you on the right path...the saying is "dont run before you can walk" and its very true with horses....just have some fun to start with....
I have had a couple of Ideal Jessicas, which I bought as the young horse changed shape and sold to fun the next. Each cost about £300, they are a good bargain especially if you don't mind the ones with suede seats, which seem less popular on the second hard market. Perhaps because they look a touch shabby after some use. This didn't bother me as I sold all for at least as much as i bought them for - sometimes more.
I also have a Derby House Kentucky which I bought for my older boy, he mostly hacks but I struggle in canter in the school in his jump saddle so bought it purely to support me better in this. They are around £200 to £300 now and are nice, slightly old-fashioned dressage saddles with small rolls. It's a lovely brown and shines up very well still.
Of course they may not fit the horse... it's worth looking online at the saddlers who allow you to have them on trial for the cost of postage. Sheepham saddles has a lower budget range than Saddles Direct and it's worth contacting them to ask if they can look out for something specific for you.
if it was a 17.5 I would have bought itWhat you looking for I have an Albion slk 18" mw that I can't use ... It's in good nick and available at about your price point.
These are gorgeous, most seem to come in over budget,
Should I maybe save for around a 4/500 budget?
