Am thinking of building a low cost field shelter, can anyone recommend the best way to build one,it needs to be moveable as not my land..any pics would be good...

No such thing as "cheap mobile field shelter" :D

Basic 12x12 is going to cost more for you to build than buy....about £850 for a billy basic

a 12x24 will run to about £1k

At that price they will be unlined so you will have to do that too PLUS build the damn thing!

I share ur pain...desperate for one as my ponies night paddock doesn't have much shelter but a row of short bushes...their big oak tree is now leafless so useless. Cheapest 12 x 12 shelter I have found so far is about £369 so not horrific but still a lot!

I think there was a company on ebay for that price and another name I can't remember:rolleyes: I was hunting for over an hour the other night. I need something just very basic, no frills etc that comes with skids so I can move it! The majority were £500+ for 'basic' but no way in hell my payslip would willingly cover that!

It's the skids that are expensive, I thought about buying those and then building something on them but it wouldn't be that cost effective once you've bought all the materials. I read about someone making a scaffolding and pond liner shelter anchored down which sounded good! But only because my dad had some scaffolding. The protech ones are quite good but my horse is a bum rubbing little tank monster so not sure it would be robust enough.

there is a shelter in the field but its full of woodrot..i did think about treating the woodrot and then re-building what needed repairing but my only worry was that if putting the new wood onto old wood that there may be some remains of woodrot and it would spread onto the new timber

Search the freeads for shed/stables "free to take down and remove". Timber can be cut and repaired and modified. Worked for me! But you will need someone handy with a hammer and nails and transport to get it home.

Trees ! :D and they are environmentally friendly ;)

Ever tried moving a tree??? :D:D:D

We have a 12x24 that cost a whisker under £1k five years ago abd despite looking after it I have to say it isn't doing well. It can be moved on skids but it seems to be weaker after every move. We also have a £350 log store/garage 2nd hand that we converted and it's brilliant. Doesn't really move but can be with a little dismantling.
