LOW FLYING AIRCRAFTS!!!!!!!

i am soooo mad at these people!!!

how anyoying are they!! is there some way we can get a partition together to stop low flying aircrafts coming over and scaring all the animals?? luckly my horses are ok with them but its so anoying because they think they own the air and can go as low as they want, at any time of the day OR NIGHT!! and they think nothing wrong with it! what do you lot think of them, have you ever had a accedent with an aircraft and a horse or any animal??

Is it local RAF site or private aircraft? Either way you should be able to write a letter to the site and request that they give notification when they are doing low flight manouvers
 
never a problem, we often have the low jets over from RAF yeovilton in order to do their sea exercises and, if riding, by the time horse thinks about doing anything jet has already disappeared. They just ignore them.
 
well we rung up once and mum spoke to one woman and she tryed to complain but the woman just put the phone down on her!! it is so scary wen they fly over tho!
 
Horses get easily used to it, as all the other livestock we have and the RAF has to train somewhere...
Having said that, I am at the moment trying to get them to alter their usual route by about 50 m to avoid flying directly over my buildings as the vibration knocks bits of roofing off. I have to say, the MoD are a pleasure to deal with and very understanding.
 
We live at the end of the runway for Yeovilton, we get loads of helicopters and fast jets lining up on the house.

Horses completely ignore them, even when they have swinging landrovers under the helicopters for the Air Day shows.

We've been told that if you wear hi-viz they make the effort to avoid flying directly over you when on horseback. Seams to work, I even wear mine when riding in the arena!

Invariably the lady on the phone wouldn't have been the correct person but is probably the one who takes all of the complaints! Try ringing her back and asking for the name of the person you would need to write to... you will never get aircrafts changing their flight plans but they should be able to give you warning if they have anything huge coming in or have a series of manouevers coming up that will mean the local airways are busier than normal.

We're not too far from hospital that air ambulance lands at, none of ours give 2 hoots that they are so low we could wave at the pilots.
If it is military aircraft, they have to train and train well to defend our country from the many threats we have. We're also near a military air base and again, the horses are not bothered.

i understand they have to fly somewhere but i dont really think in the dead of night is very apropret and also i live in a VERY old house and it shakes every time something flys over it! lol not meaning to sound rude at ALL! lol it just anoys me that they can see we are ridding and they continue to fly straight ubove and not give a dam! im not talking 100f up in the air im talking like 40f-50f no joke!!!!!
 
The first week I had my mare I was priviledged

enough to have one of those excessively loud low flying harrier jets sneak up on us and appear over the hedge and fly straight across the road over our heads!

My wonderful spooky mare bless her heart didn't bat an eyelid and proceeded to turn round and look at me as if to say oh come on get a grip its only a jet what's the problem?!?!

A few weeks later a Helicopter appeared out of the dead ground to our right and flew straight up to our height and over (if you get me?!?) again I had an absolute heart attack and mare looked at it in amazement and carried on!!!

Now Squirrels.................they're a completely different matter!!!!

Many people underestimate the actual height at which the aircraft passes - it appears to be really low, in fact, they stick to restrictions.
I'm afraid that they do have to fly at night as well.
I am in two minds about the us wearing hi-viz and them avoiding flying directly over us, it might work with chinooks and other helicopters, but a fighter jet??? surely, they are travelling at far to great a speed to make it feasible?
 
I have phoned up to complain once and the person on the other end of the phone assumed that I was after hi viz freebees. He did start to take me seriously when I informed him that I was actually wearing own set at the time. But the Helicopter took no notice no notice of me at all.
Totally understand that these training exercises have to be done but I do think that public safety should be taken into consideration.
 
As this has been done to death, you will find that there are rules and they do not have the right to fly where they like and at a height they like without prior clearance. As the wife of RAF and having been a yard manager stationed on an active air force station with 16+ horses, they really do get used to it! Do by all means ring the MOD and try to find out if there is an exercise on in your area. By your post it seems to be slightly confusing. The military do have to practice in the dead of night as wars don't stop between the hours of darkness... If you are talking of fast jet pilots, they will not be at 40 or 50 ft as will tend to crash into all sorts of things and there are limitations. As has been noted, it is not easy to estimate the height of an aircraft accurately. Again at very high speeds and on exercise the pilot will have plenty of things to consider and will not necessarily see you at speeds well in excess of 500 Kts... Martlin, you are correct, the speeds are often too high! I can stand at the end of the runway and wave my head off to typhoon pilots and only at a particular point would they see me if they were looking. If at speed and lowish level they have way too much to do on finals. By all means do complain but I am afraid its somethig they have to do. I have this from first hand experience and as I type the Typhoon (Euro fighter)is displaying (ya don't get noisier than that) and there are 2 riding schools within a few miles of the station! My husband has also been at low level (not 40-50ft) I might add, flying over horsey areas. Funnily enough our dog could be next to a Harrier jump jet hovering at meters (on the runway) and was fine but horrified at an aircraft contrail at 37,000 ft!
Sorry that you are distressed by it all though, but a necessary occurence.
 
no the helicopters and other private jets or something are coming over at about 50ft but i didnt say that the noisy ones come over at 50ft the post is about low flying aircraft and not about the noisy ones. not meaning to sound rude at all its just when the helicopters and private jets comeover its scary because if they do loose control......!! i leave that one up to the imagination!! lol but the noisy ones do scare me but i think my horses are getting a little used to the noisy ones. im honeistly not trying to sound rude. x
 
I very much doubt anything comes over at 50ft, 50ft is about 16m, an average height of a house would be roughly 25-30ft ish.
As to private jest... hmmm I don't think they are many in this country

they look like it???? lol iv no idea wat they are but they do come over VERY low and the people at my yard do say to me when they come over that is far to low to be flying over here!
 
You are certainly not being rude in the slightest!!! My complete apologies! I skim read the post and you indeed, make no reference to military aircraft. If civilian, it will help if you can get their tail numbers and then ring your local airport or airfield (may be a small local airfield) and speak to operations or air traffic control. Best of luck!

The scariest one I had coming over was a low-flying (I hasten to add within restrictions) Hercules carrier plane - they are MASSIVE and fly much slower than the fighter jets (obviously), therefore the noise is longer and the sight frightening. Now on that occasion every single living creature in my fields was in panic! But only the first time.
It is worth remembering that horses natural predators do not come from above, so they take much better to a helicopter than for example a stray dog/a squirrel or a low-flying carrier bag

i was schooling my mare ages ago and a helicopter believe it or not, hovered above us and looked like he was going to land in the manage with us. he lowered the chopper lower and lower and my mare threw me off and he flew off!! i complained.
 
i was once riding in the forest and a helicopter appear from no where right above my head. i was like arse holes!!!!!! turned out it was princess anne!!!
 
My horse is on a yard right at the end of the runway. We get planes over constantly, some make a right racket - especially the jets and red arrows! However, it's only the riders that get tense about them, the horses dont give a stuff. They fly over them all the time in the fields so they just get used to it. They only ever get scared when the person riding them does..
 
We got them a lot, very large, very noisy, very low. Never had a single horse or pony (or donkey) worry.

They have to practice flying low and flying at night.
 
I live in Snowdonia and we are in the main low flying training area in the UK. Almost every day that the cloud is high enough for them to fly safely we have jets of some description as well as Hercules transport planes and less frequently, helicopters.

When I first brought my horse to this area I was amazed at his total lack of reaction to any of the planes from day 1. Even when I am schooling and the American F15's come over he just carries on as if nothing has happened (and believe me, those planes are REALLY loud!).

The MOD have to practice somewhere unfortunately.
