That don't cost the earth? Currently use JWB but at nearly £8 per bag, it's not the cheapest option. My hours have been cut at work so not earning as much as I previously did.

What percentage of protein are you trying to aim for?

Luath's (by Land of Holistic Pets) I think is lower, but it's also easily supplemented with fresh veg (ie carrots, green beans, spinach etc) to lower the protein. A 2kg bag costs about £6-7.

I believe she is currently on 18% protein. Problem is she needs the light version of foods as she is a little heiffer and this seems to increase the protein.

I would look into Beta Salmon and Rice Sensitive. At nearly £30 for a 15kg bag it's a medium grade food, but at least you aren't paying for a load of artificial rubbish with Beta. I'm not sure what percentage of protein it is, but as a Sensitive food it shouldn't be high. The only foods you are going to get which are both low protein and light are super premium and premium foods. JWB would be one of these. However, I really don't think you will benefit price wise unless you drop right down to a lower grade food, which are normally working dog foods and will be neither light nor low protein. You could try buying the JWB in larger bags than 2kg, you would certainly save that way!

Land of Holistic Pets Luath is 18.5% - is very good on my particularly good do-ers. No preservatuves, no beef, pork, soy wheat, maize, etc etc. Ingredients include Brown rice, chicken or lamb, millet, chicken fat, peas, carrots, spinach, sunflower oil, spirulina, seaweed, oregano, green tea, parsley, vits and mins....and that's it.

Luaths is an okay food, but what really annoyed me was that they 'don't believe in life stages?'. I wouldn't be pushed on it, and JWB is as good a quality of food, if not better, at the same (possibly a lower) price.

Oh and if you ask in your pet store they may well have free food storage bins which the wholesalers send in for promotions

The reason JWB is less expensive is that they have changed their recipe from brown rice to white.....if you phone LOHP to speak to George Burns, he's very good at giving personal and individual advice for your dog and can answer any query re life stages.

It's well worth checking out the website at www.landofholisticpets.co.uk or phoning them.

Skinners Field and Trail maintenance 18% protein and only £15 for a large bag (no VAT)

Put my BC on it a few weeks ago and his coat condition has improved no end - really looks lovely and healthy. Mind you he was on a well known large pet superstore cr&p before!
