I probably should know the answer to this, but can anyone recommend a feed that is low in starch and cereals, while providing a bit more energy than current diet of Alfa-A and Alfabeet? Horse is only four and still growing so I don't want to load him up with cereals (or create a lunatic!) but now he is working harder I think he needs something a little more. He is fine for the first fifteen minutes or so of work, then he seems to get tired and it's a battle to continue. His condition is perfect and he looks fab, so I don't want something hugely conditioning. As well as the chaff and Alfabeet he is also on a balancer and micronised linseed; is there anything you would add to up the energy just a little?

Saracen releve? Low starch & I've recently tried mine on it but rapidly took him off it as gave him far too much energy, unfortunately he doesn't use energy in a good way & gets very silly! Spooking at a bee that flew in front of his face out hacking was the final straw!

Another thumbs up for ERS Pellets . . . thanks to recommendations from the lovely people on HHO, we put our boy on these a couple of months ago - he had come out of that really long winter looking a little lean, his workload had gone right up (works 6 days a week and competes at least twice a month), but anything high starch made him not only silly but also very unhappy. ERS Pellets (and lots of Dr Green now that we've had warm weather, sunshine and showers) have helped him build up, but kept his excitability to a minimum.

In addition, we've found that Kal needs a little bit more both before and after a more taxing competition day (so an ODE rather than pure dressage) otherwise he drops off a little - so we slip him some micronised linseed and Baileys No 1 to give him an extra boost.

Had forgotten ERS pellets, another feed I had to abandon due to fizzing my horse up to much. Equijewell also made him a bit too lively!

I use D&H Staypower cubes for this. The mix is higher in starch but i remember that the cubes are much lower (at least they were last time i looked, can't now find the nutritional breakdown)
