Bit of a random one, is a bit with a lozenge centre any better than a 'normal' bit, i.e. french link with lozenge centre versus french link with the kidney shaped piece in the middle?

Do horses go any better in them? Thanks

I did see that bit and thought I may give the hanging cheek one a go, hence post. It is also a lot cheaper to but than a NS, again hence post, I'm wondering if its the lozenge that makes the difference or something else?

It's trial and error. My youngster loathed the lozenge bit I first used, and was constantly getting his tongue over the bit. He is now in a loose ring french link snaffle, and loves it.

ditto above. i tried mine in it and she hated it. i guess some horses take to it and others dont. shes also happy in a French link.

My gelding seems to dislike lozenge bits altogether.... so he just has straight bars instead :P (he doesn't mind single joints too much, but they don't work quite as well, and I don't like them, heh)

My horse loves his lozenge bit, i was having trouble getting him to take the bit forwards (if that makes sence) as soon as i started with the lozenge he was much more willing, but i agree woth above posts that bitting is so often trial and error so its always useful to have lots of horsey friends to borrow their bits before you buy one! Infact my local tack shop loans bits out to try.
