This is a completely new experience for me, looking for a 1st pony for my granddaughter. She is a tiny 5 yr old so I need to find a tiny pony, 11hd max I would have thought. Shes had a couple of lessons on a mini shettie who is a real sweetie. Can anyone point me in the direction of any reputable places who sell tinies, or do I just have to scour the ads and hope for the best when I get there. Oh, North Bucks area preferred or within an hours drive. Also, how do you travel your mini ponies in a standard double trailer??

I would recommend scouring....

The best ones haven't been put on the market yet. Try pony club websites, speak to your local saddlery and hunt. We got ours through word of mouth, some one heard we were looking through mutual friends and contacted us asking if we would consider their pony.

Good luck the diamonds are around but rare!

Yes try your local pony club - its a classic time of year for outgrown ponies to go up for sale... "we'll keep him until the end of the show season....". Last year half our pc went up for sale! Otherwise a good local instructor usually knows of ponies coming up for sale too..

Word of mouth is always best but failing that try the Horse Gossip forum as they have a section where smallies

If you are after a mini shetland then check out the Blenheim stud. Beautiful little shetties. We have a 6 yr old Blenheim and she is an absolute star for my 3 yr old ... they are based in Oxford, so not far from North Bucks

Other than that, scour preloved - there are always loads of mini ponies for sale on there. Just had a quick look on there and there are several lead rein ponies for sale at the mo in the Milton Keynes area ...

I have found one by word of mouth - definitely the best way obviously.

However when I was looking for our most recent pony I put a wanted ad on Preloved, just so that I would get local contacts. Maybe if I was further up the country I may have used Horsequest. Anyway we found the most wonderful pony, and not necessarily the type I would have being looking at ads for.

I feel for you, finding that first pony can make or break your children's enthusiasm, good luck!

We found our saintly former hoys m&m FR pony on Horsequest. His owner took references before she would let me fly the length of the country to try him, and they let a number of people view him then chose the home they wanted him to go to.

Fabulous ponies are advertised who come with references and a genuine history. However they are not cheap!
