So hubby after 6 years and coming jumping once is watching puissance with me coz pingpongpony is round for tea.

He's a closet italian at heart and rooting for Luca, que air punching every time he clears the wall and tense pose leaning forward on the approach!

Luca moneta has broken my husband, at last!

..and what a popular winner he is!

So nice to see a rider sooooo happy and minus any gadgets on his horse. You get the feeling he just wandered into the tack room and picked up the first set of tack he saw :) Fab.

Heart warming! What a pair and what a horse to try so hard to get it right every single time. Wonder what he says to her when he shows her the jump. :)

What a wonderful partnership Luca and his mare are. I love that he gives her a titbit before she leaves the ring. He rides her without any gadgets and lets her do it her own way and express herself. They trust each other. An inspiration to us all

Yep, Dan was watching as was his mate Mark...neither interested (well, Dan loves the girls but never get involved willingly) and they both watched and were glued to it. Was hilarious, they were commenting on how Lucas mare didn't seem to lift her shoulders as much as the others but she looked to have a lot more propulsion, lol. I thought I was in a parallel universe!!!

So pleased he won, he absolutely deserved it, along with the obvious adoration of the crowd. A fabulous horseman! xx

It was brilliant. As much as I support GB I so wanted Luca to win when they were the only two left. A novice puissance horse against a professional. It was just brilliant!!

Absolutely loved Luca and his horse, they deserved to win purely based on enthusiasm!

My non horsey dad has really surprised me this year, he watched the dressage (by himself I might add, I was next door, he chose to switch t on) and really enjoyed it. He always likes the puissance anyway but he stayed up to watch it all the way through and was cheering with the best of them!

I have to say I am very pleased with the coverage this year, the Olympics has done it's job! I have had non horsey friends talk to me about the "horse dancing" whereas before the Olympics none of them knew what it was. Long may it continue!

I have lost count of the amount of non horsey people I have known for years come out and ask me if my horses dance like the ones on telly, lol. :)

Heartwarming to watch... Not sure I've rooted for one rider/horse combination in a long time, because of all the reasons mentioned above. Incredibly deserved!

Was it me hearing things or did they say Luca practices the word beginning with P that has caused many interesting debates on here?!

I'm really pleased he won loved how much of a bond he looked to have with his mare & how he was patting her and giving her treats and how she tried in return.

Was also nice to see how he looked to be really enjoying himself and interacting with the crowd as often riders can look so serious esp SJ people (not generalizing before anyone shouts just an observation!)

I was cheering them both on, like you say uses some of the basics yet makes it all work. Class through and through.

Was a great show, i hated him in the first round, was irked by him in the second, laughed at him in the third and loved him by the fourth. He HAD to win with that performance.

Richi Rich is the most amazing horse ever though.

He does do Parelli :-)

I love the guy, I think he's a great ambassador for showjumping & equestrianism (& I'm pleased he has received so many comments on his relationship as a fellow Parelli follower, given the heated debates that have followed on here before ... !)

I just hope he is there on Sunday, still!

Sorry but that kind of took me off him a little...

Actually, no, the fact that he does parelli doesn't put me off him even though I generally dislike it. PP was not always someone to be disliked, when you read some of his original theories and writings he speaks an incredible amount of sense. It is only when it becomes mainstream that it begins it loose its true meaning, mainstream 'cult' parelli is something I can't abide, although there are those who do practice it sympathetically, tailoring it to individual horses and only using the practices they agree with and feel comfortable using. To me, this is a successful partnership, no matter what practices used. I don't advocate parelli because many people follow it to the point were they damage their horses through inadequate knowledge, understanding and sympathy of the species. There are some though, that I recognise and have witnessed who can and do use forms of this method to good effect.

Great performance given the way the class was heading when it started.
I think, not too sure, that I read, this guy has spent time with Michel Robert.

Was great to watch

Richi Rich certainly jumps with a heart in mouth style-no way your pulling out once she is set

I am petrified of jumping.....unless I am on something like her, in which case, there is no stopping me. I think my fear must be of a horse running out or dirty stopping, been too long to remember. I just remember of all the horses I used to jump when I was a kid, it was the slightly mental head in the air, lock on and go horses that I had the most fun on :)

Superb horsemanship. Hopefully the tv coverage and partnerships like Luca Moneta and his mare will help the profile of show jumping as a spectator sport. As a small child I remember HOYS, RIHS and Olympia all having tv coverage with the great characters of Harvey Smith, David Broome et al and then the up and coming Whitakers and Nick Skelton. Now we have Scott Brash and Ben Maher as world number one and two so this is surely the time to get the general public interested. After all look what Charlotte and co with their dancing horses have done for dressage!

I didn't even realise it was on last night, until I was on here and someone posted the link so I could watch it live.

I thought it was absolutely amazing, it was the most excitement I've had in a long time!

I'm not normally a fan of top level showjumping but last night was excellent and I loved, loved, watching Luca win - such a refreshing change from the 'norm'. My last show jumping hero was David Broome in the 1970's, I think I might just have a new one now!

Listening to the commentary was interesting. There seems to be an expectation that SJ requires lots of equipment to control the horse. At the start they were saying things like Luca being brave to jump without and how different and unconventional his riding was. By the end they were commenting about how stylish he was. The mare never seemed to use any more effort than was necessary to take her and her rider over the fence safely and she did it her way :)
The contrast between her and most of the other horses was very notable. Instead of a wild unstoppable charge at the wall the moment they were lined up to jump she eyed it, sized it up and made her own decision about how she was getting over it. However she was trained is a credit to Luca and it would be really lovely to see more SJ competitors with the joy and expression and harmony this pair showed.
Meems, hello :) I'm from same era and I loved watching Eddie Macken too. But never enjoyed Harvey Smith!

the horse has an interesting style-lots of horses drop their shoulders like that, I can't think of any at that level though! so does his riding style allow her to jump at the level despite her style? He rides quite long as well. It will be interesting to see how long they are about and how much success he has with other horses. Don't get me wrong, I really hope he does have continued success as I think a rider like that is brilliant for the sport and his relationship with his horse is lovely to see.

commentators **** me off frankly, much too much made of just how hard the riders are working and how difficult their horses are and not enough credit to the horses. every single one of those horses in the ring last night were incredible.

I liked Harvey, Eddie Macken, Caroline Bradley, Joe Turi etc I remember Nick jumping the high jump record and him taking off seconds off the old schools jump off times.

Ooooh no I quite agree, Harvey Smith was definitely the 'baddie'! I remember two separate incidents, one involving whipping a horse outside the main ring after it had jumped badly and the other was a very public 'v' sign!

Last night at olympia in the row in front of us where literally a whole row of non horsey university students who had come to see the puissance. It was really nice to see as they where getting really in to it (and the other things as well)!
