Just seen dates are up for the Petplan LG clinics.

Anyone done one? Are they worth £90 which seems rather toppish. Are they suitable for less experienced combinations?

£90 would be close to what I would pay for 2 sessions with other trainers (also 4* eventers who are excellent teachers) so am on the fence (no pun intended)

I have seen LG's sessions on H&C television, but obviously very different actually doing one.

Thanks

I did the 2 day one last year. Very much enjoyed it - liked the way she teaches but from reading previous posts on here she seems to be like Marmite :D;)
I think they were decent length sessions you got - a couple of hours apiece and certainly I have paid similar to that for similar type of group session with Ian Stark.
I think she would teach any level - there was quite a variety in the groups I watched before me

I have had a couple of brilliant sessions with her. But also a couple of disappointing sessions. I think it very much depends upon your horse as to how much you get out of the session.

I had a very good session with her a few years ago - but I was on a very established and able horse.

Have been debating over the dinner table weather to take my 5 year old this year....

Marmite definitely...but also depends on you and your horse as a combination. I did one clinic on an older ex 2* horse who knew his game and I loved it. Then took a horse I was less confident on (and in the interim I had had an experience which meant I was less confident generally) and I came home pretty much convinced I was the worst rider ever :(. Another well known trainer said to me that her clinics are great if you are up for anything and so is your horse but if there is any chink in the partnership then she is not so good. I won't be going back...

I've also had mixed experiences - I thoroughly enjoyed two of her two day clinics on an older, more established horse and then took along a green five year old, thinking that it would be a great education for him and bitterly regretted it and came away feeling we were both hopeless - it really knocked our confidence as a partnership which was the exact opposite of what I'd hoped to achieve!

I did the one-day course last year at MK - my report is here on HHO if you want to read it. I really enjoyed it (I watched 2 of the other sessions as well) and learnt a few new things. My horse (6yo IDx) took to it like a duck to water despite a few brakes issues, but I probably won't do another one. I get more out of my Baydale lessons.

Thanks all. I think with a bold youngster and a more mature rider who hasn't done a huge amount of XC, February is too early for us so will stick with current plans and leave LG for when we are more established.

Had a very similar exp and left after the first day. Felt like crying at the end of the lesson....Felt like I was so bad I should give up!! Have now given up on clinics and either have private lessons or just go xc schooling on my own. Much happier now :D

I did one last year at chilham park and learnt so much. My horse was very green and difficult at the time, and she gave me so much advice and help with him, would recommend her to anyone :-)

My daughter did one several years ago. It was an ex-racehorse one. She hoped to take her own boy, but he lost a shoe at the last minute so ended up taking my silly chestnut!
She still says it was the best lesson she has ever had, and worth every penny. I think that was about 4 years ago, and she was watching LG on H & C TV yesterday... she said she remembers every word of her lesson. That just says it all to me.
I would recommend her to anyone. :)

Hmmmm I've been to a few of hers in the past, really enjoyed them, but the last one, I felt a bit bored with the format, which doesn't change and would have liked to be pushed more.... So decided I wouldn't go to any more...
I've now got a new horse, who's done a bit, but is quite hot and sensitive, so although I considered it, thought I would do better with my regular instructor

But if you've never been, are open minded and prepared to push the boundaries of what you think is possible, then go, you'll get a lot out of it.....

I've been to one of her clinics and wouldn't go again!
She seemed to be going through the motions as if she didn't really want to be there.
I was on a youngster which I needed a hand with and she didn't offer any advice when I asked, just told us all to go and jump whatever fences we wanted to on the course then took no notice of us at all!

Went home feeling pretty disheartened with the whole thing and thought it was a waste of money.
