lucky escape with colic last night

Totally pointless post here, but I'm sure there will be others who apreciate how rough I feel and look at the moment!
My boy colicked badly last night.(Vet confirmed right dorsal displacement) We caught it immediately, and the vet got there fast. Tubing him proved positive, as not too much fluid came back out, and we got a load of water and electrolytes into him, as he was dehydrating through the massive amount of sweating he'd been doing. My job was then to wait until he'd woken up from the sedation and then lunge him hard for 15 mins every half hour throughout the night, to try and help the gut to drop back down, and to also monitor him.

I'm pleased to say my boy is OK, and the vet examined him this morning and his gut has gone back to where it should be. He's on small amounts of strictly rationed hay once an hour throughout the day, and if all remains good, then he can be fed normally tomorrow...

I'm now at work, after zero sleep, looking and feeling as roungh as * ****** ***** ha ha.

I'm just so relieved I am at a yard where my YO stays onsite to check the horses very late every day, even Sundays! If he'd have been left overnight, the vets thinks it's likely we'd have lost him

Yep, always do. He's also fed Caron Oil. This is his first ever colic.
I think he colicked due to stress, as he had to go in and stay overnight at the clinic to have x-rays and nerve blocks a few days ago, which diagnosed some degenerative bone problems (long story). I am sure the stress and the drugs used last week had something to do with why he colicked yesterday.
 
I know exactly how your feeling my boy colic-ed on saturday night and i havent really slept since xx glad to hear he is doing well xx

I USED to be on a yard where they were checked late at night but judging from the amount of hay left in my poor mares net, as in full, I very much doubt this was done. Sadly my mare was pts the following morning after finding her with colic. Vet reckons she'd been colicking all night. Poor girl.
