Luhmühlen Live thread

I'm watching a bit around work but I'm also eventing this weekend so will probably end up on catch up rather than live

I am watching on Horse&Country. Not many are really coping with the flying changes at the end. You just think they are going to get a good score and it drops significantly. Quite a discrepancy in the judging not just for the Austrian!

Thanks for the link to the live scoring. Aside from the Austrian I thought scoring was fairly consistent initially but some more outliers have definitely popped up! It almost seems to be getting worse instead of better.

Absolutely! Gemma did a great test, how could one judge place her 6th! It couldn’t have been so much different from a different angle.

Are you listening to the commentators? They don’t understand it either! What do have to do to score an 8 for a movement? They are not awarding anyone past a 7 however perfect the movement is.

Actually the judge at C had izilot 1st on 25.8 and London 52 2nd on 26.7 .
The other two placed London 52 in first
Only 1 or 2 seconds difference between them overall on cross country !

I tuned in about half an hour ago. Lots of problems at the angled arena fences 😬 Not sure I’ve seen anyone get through without a problem since I started watching.

I was a bit late to the party so missed the first 10 minutes, but I've seen riders have quite a few problems already. Hopefully things will settle down, especially now the US rider Samantha Chesnick did so well through the arena angles. 🤞

Somehow I forgot that this event is streamed by H&C, not CMH. I find it a bit ironic that the German 5* is not being broadcasted by the German media company (CMH) 😒

Leaves me to follow the live scores. Yikes!

The angled double of hedges in the arena is causing so many horses to run out. The commentator (Spencer) reported that Mike Etherington Smith said the problems are because the horses didn't have enough pace (?), but surely the angles are so acute that extra speed will make them even harder to clear them?

Gosh I hope Jalapeno (Gemma Stevens) it's ok, they were having such a great round. 🤞🤞🤞

(She pulled up very quickly after the last water, and Jalapeno was lame. Gemma leapt off, and the vets were with her very quickly. The course is now on hold. )

Doesn’t bode well for Jalepeno for this length of hold 😞 But didn’t Gemma react quickly.

The combo in the arena is fascinating to watch, if now a shame it’s becoming so influential.
Yes I agree, she knew there was a problem straight away. It looks like there is quite a drop at that final jump after the water. I really hope that the outcome is ok for Jalapeno. 🤞

What I’m understanding from watching and interpretation of the various commentators/interviews is that it looks to be built to ride on a one straight line with the fences at an acute angle. But that line rides long and you therefore need the pace to get it.

And that it fine if you have a bold straight horse that reads the question

But what is transpiring is less horses are reading it than expected. You have the placing of the crowd and the blue trays taking their eye away, and when that happens the bold one stride isn’t happening.

So there seems to be an alternative 2 stride slightly turning line, that is ridden with less pace, that some have made look good. But others less so.

That's really interesting, thank you! 😊

In some ways, I think it's a shame that a fence that is so much centre stage, being that it's in the main arena, is giving so much trouble. It's such a hard balance for the course designer.

Hopefully Halo will make it look easy!
🤞
