My money would be on a strike to the tendon.

I’m 50/50 as to whether I’d get it scanned. On a working horse most definitely, on a youngster in the field I’d probably just ice and leave them mooching about unless it go hot or lame

I thought it looked the right size and shape to be a kick mark. I tend towards hose and wait myself if there's no heat or lameness. My opinion is shaped a bit by my own physical distance from sophisticated veterinary services though!

Yes, she’s a professional moocher so I’m icing and leaving her to it at the moment. I probably wouldn’t scan unless she was unhappy on it, but will get it checked over when vet is here for Milagra’s teeth.

It does look like she’s given it a good wallop or Milagra has helped with that ?

I’m also used to being vet-less, so I totally get that. When I lived in a rural town in South Africa, the nearest equine vet was three hours away. The local vet was scared of horses!

In this case, I’ll have her looked over when the vet sees Milagra and if it wasn’t getting better or she showed any discomfort, I’d call them immediately.

Without wishing to go off topic - how is Milagra - did you come to an agreement with the owner about what to do going forwards?

Glad Mim is ok so far, fingers crossed for it being a knock and no lasting damage. Have you seen her trot and canter as well as mooch about in walk to be sure she's sound? (Sure you probably have but thought best worth mentioning it might be worth trotting her up just incase she has any lameness which doesn't show in walk - from bitter experience unfortunately!)

The owner has given me an option to keep her, and pay for the op myself, or that she will pay for the op and then may look to sell afterwards to recover some of the costs of the op.

We are thinking about the options at the moment and probably leaning towards letting her have the op and then seeing how she recovers and deciding if we’d like to buy her.

And yes, Mim is trotting happily and will canter although I’m currently yelling “slowly” a lot because I’d really rather she didn’t ? She does actually respond to “slowly” which is a miracle.
