I bought a little 18mth colt at the end of September, within 2 days he had got a grotty nose and cough and was very poorly.
Vet came and he was tested for Strangles, influenza and herpes, thankfully all the swabs came back negative.
Nose has cleared up and he has been fine for a few weeks now.
Tonight my daughter got him in and was fussing and cuddling him when she noticed a lump in his throat area, its the size of a tennis ball i felt it and it seemed to hurt him.
He is eating and drinking as normal.
Any ideas anyone
Many thanks

There is a bacterium that comes with the Strangles abscess, Strepto zoo, I think if they have had strangles, the abscess can keep coming back. It's not strangles, i think they call it false strangles.
My boy had this 3 times, the first vet said leave it alone until it bursts, the second vet lanced it and the third gave it a mammoth amount of antibiotics which finally stopped it coming back!
It never seemed to bother him but it can spread and can also be transferred to humans so it's worth checking it out again.
