Hi

Wonder if anyone has had the same thing with their dogs that I have at the moment with my 7 years old, chocolate labrador bitch...

I'm worried sick - on Saturday we took her to the vets for her annual booster & general MOT, the vet found a lump on the gum over her top front teeth. We had not noticed this before and feel it has come on relatively quickly but apart from her daily dental stick we don't always check her mouth unless there is an obvious problem, her teeth are 'perfect' in out vets opinion, no plaque build up etc so unlikely to be poor dentition etc.

Vet seems to think it's a tumour of some sort - hopefully benign but we won't know until we get the results of her biopsy back at the end of this week/beginning of next.

She was in yesterday for the biopsy and during the proceedure the lump bled quite profusely, so much so that he had to quarterise it - all seems ok since but I think it's bothering her a bit as she's licking like mad but I've checked it & it's not bleeding etc & looks the same as it did when we collected her yesterday (we're back in to have it checked tomorrow).

Anyone had similar problems?

Thanks

No advice, sorry, but I'm sure the vets will sort it out. Particularly as they caught it before it was causing her problems =] good luck, let us know how you get on xxxx

Thanks guys - fingers crossed they'll be able to fix her or even better there will be nothing to fix! She's my pride & joy, I feel like someone has knocked all of the wind out of my sails...:(

Dont worry, my retriever has just had the same thing, its very common and nine times out of ten its benign, cant remember the name of it but it is harmless. He had them removed and was back to normal next day. Try not to worry, easy for me to say, ha ha, stayed with him till he went to sleep in the waiting room and had butterflys all day. Good luck. xx

aawww, hey dont worry. My lab had exactly the same, and it bulged between his front teeth from behind:eek: He was only 4 years old and I was devastated when the vet said the 'tumor' word.

It was a simple op... and he has never looked back and is now 14 1/2 ;) Its very common apparently.

Jane6394 & NeverSayNever - thank you so much! I'll try not to worry so much now, will be happier when it's all sorted tho! :)

I have had this happen twice with my IWS. First time the lump came up really quickly and was about the size of a small pea, had it removed and it was a benign mast cell tumour. 2nd time it happened and I was frantic, thinking this time it was bound to be a malignant recurrence, turned out to be an infected lump caused by a tiny piece of stuff from one of those horrid sticky burrs which explode when you try to pull them out of the hair. Smurph must have got a bit stuck in his mouth when he was busy grooming himself and it wedged between his gum! Fingers crossed all is well with your lab.
PS This happened 6 and 4 years ago, he is now 10.
