I noticed there was a very hard, pea-ish size lump on my mare's lower jaw today. I pucsed and squeezed it and it didn't seem to cause her any pain. She is 8yrs old and a TB mare. She doesn't seem to be in any pain when ridden and is alert with a shinny coat.

Does anyone know what this is?

Thank you.

Hi,

Is it in the underside of one of the lower jaw bones....If so, I had a horse with this.....

My vet said it was related to tooth above dropping down..!!! Seriously......I thought it was a little weird..! but he said not to worry, it would never cause any pain, would prob be there forever but wont be an issue...and to be fair to him, it never was......but I'm still not sure whether I believed him, LOL....

Tho, it really didnt cause any problems!

my horse has one too.The dentist told me the same as your vet.It can also be caused by past neglect of a horses teeth. The only time you need to worry is if it is appears to be separate from the jaw and seems to be growing in size.
