Lari grass glands are up again and I noticed a hard lump over his windpipe where indicated on the photo attached on the underside of his neck. I palpated it and it's not hurting him, it actually feels like cartilage, it's not visible and you can only feel it if you raise his head/chin upwards, weirdly I can't remember what he was doing when I noticed it.

He's eating and drink and interacting as normal. However I have no idea what this lump could be.

The y.o is getting the vet out early next week so has suggested they look at Lari which I've agreed to. I did wonder if he'd been kicked in the neck.

He looks quite swollen so we are keeping an eye on him but it had gone down this morning.

I attach a photo of how he looked when they first appeared in 2021 when I first had him, it was about a week in from owning him!

Any ideas?

I had grass glands up on my big metabolic mare yesterday after a field escape - she looked like a stuffed hamster.

She's had charcoal x 2 meals which has really helped.

Trying to work out if that's thyroid area on your photo but I'm on my phone. That can swell with metabolic issues (got that t-shirt)

He was negative when he was EMS tested thank goodness. They actually went down during the night as they weren't so obvious this morning but were up again when he came in this afternoon when we visited so must be grass glands. This afternoon we could barely see his ribs, Wednesday they were visible so thinking it could well be the grass.

Hope your mare is OK x
