Hello

My horse has been off colour for 10 days. Vet came out on day 1, raised heart rate and looking very subdued, wasn't eating. Colic was ruled out. Day 4 started nibbling at hay very gently. Over the next few days, he did start eating a little more, but for a horse who is normally rather greedy, he is acting very out of character. He's been on 20 x prednisolone per day for 10 days, and Vit B supplement. His teeth have been checked (by vet) and apparently nothing. Yesterday I noticed a grape sized lump under his jaw. Could this be an abscess? It moves from side to side and does not appear to be fixed. Vet said to monitor and poultice it. I have read advice on here about poulticing in this location, which has given me some great tips, but for some reason I thought abscesses were fixed? I could be wrong of course. He's fine in himself UNTIL food is presented to him, then he looks ever so down in the dumps and still eats very hesitantly. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thank you

I had a Shetland who had an abscess under his jaw. Subsequently the dentist discovered that he had a back tooth broken off, probably from a kick from his Shitland buddy. it required a short stay in Horspital to remove the root. Hope your horse will be ok.
