Hi all,
was wondering if anyone could give me any ideas - my horse has developed lots of smallish lumps under his skin, mostly over his back and a few on his neck, particularly over saddle area. Seems to have flared up since he was fully clipped out 2 weeks ago - they are not painful and not crusty or anything. I havent changed his feed or my washing powder(!) so cannot think what might be causing it. He is rinsed down after riding to remove any sweat so shouldnt really be that either although the area where it is might suggest that it is?...
Any ideas please

Bacterial folliculitis is very common after clipping. Basically bacteria gets into the hair follicles and causes little bumps. Most common sites are under saddle and on neck. When riding you need to make sure horse is cooled down properly. Groom well. Clean rugs and numnahs regularly. Dilute hibiscrub can be used on bumps if need be. Other than that groom well and they should resolve on their own. Washing down is great if you can do it properly but thats hard to do at this time of year. Unless you use enough water then the sweat just gets moved around. Lavender wash in the water can also help.
