Advice please - yearling turned out at grass, eating drinking all normal, no change in rectal temperature and completely within normal range, no nasal discharge or cough but golf ball size swelling under jaw bone under round part of cheek, doesn’t appear painful when felt, otherwise normal any ideas?

I thought they were typically behind the ears and down the sides of the cheek bones? This is directly underneath

My gelding had this a couple of weeks back, turned out to be a tiny tick bite, causing swelling, the hair eventually fell out revealing the tick still attached, which was so small it couldn’t be seen within the hair. They dont normally swell with ticks but i think the softer skin under jaw is more sensitive. I initially thought if it was a bite, likely biting black flies or a wasp, due to the swelling, but the tick revealed all.

ETA - size of swelling was grape sized, soft swelling.
