Lumps, any ideas? *with photo's*

I noticed these lumps on my shettie yesterday and just wondered what peoples thoughts were on them. He does suffer with sweet itch so my first thought is he has been bitten in the stable. He was clipped Sunday morning. They are quite hard, like fluid lumps but he doesn't really seem that bothered by them.
The pictures aren't too clear but you should be able to get an idea of what they are like. They are on the girth area

Actually just previewed my post and they haven't come up that clear at all so i will take some more tonight, you can just make out the lines of the lumps on the third photo.

Hi,

I can't see the lumps very well but my mare was very sensitize and she used to get fluid filled lumps if i used something new on her e.g. a cream, hibiscrub etc. They were around the size of the palm of my hand.

Maybe he is sensitive to the oil you used on the clippers or if you used dilute hibiscrub after clipping?

Could be knat bites? there are knats about one bit me last night and the pony i look after who has sweet itch has loads all on his neck...

Can't really see properly but my horse gets hard fluid filled lumps on his tummy and girth area that i think are gnats. He looks like a mogul run in spring bless him!!!

Just got home, he has been out today and they have gone! They were still slightly there this morning, so not sure unless like you have said a knat got him whilst he was in his stable. I put his fly rug on today and lathered him in Camrosa and fly spray.

Probably gnat bites owing to the warm wet weather, it's going to be a bumper year for midges, gnats and any other biting insects!

We have a horse on the yard with the same.Vet diagnoised' granular 'something'(can't remember what- some long word!) Anyway, he said that they are common, cause no harm and the vets do not know what casues them but not to worry.

Yes, if you look at the toppicture where the girth would be he looks quite lumpy and fleshy it's there, they had gone down yesterday but have very slightly come back again. They stay in one day and out another it seems to be on the days he is in, although not as bad as Tuesday.

I've seen these on hunters who have had the girth done up too tight or loosened too quickly. I caused it myself to a friend's pony after hunting and felt really bad about it. BUT easily done, and effectively an odema (sp). If it's coming up and going down, you may need to not girth for a while to relieve the bruising. Try a more elasticated girth when the area has settled down, also loosen the girth progressively, Be careful though, continuing to use him and aggravate it will cause girth galls and that is a pain to get rid of.

Thanks siennasmum, he hasn't had a girth on for a while, the lumos do seem to have gone down again now?? So just going to keep an eye on him so I can try and see if i can pinpoint it to something imparticular.
