My horse is covered in lumps (like hives) she's quite sensitive to touch also. It's obviously an allergic reaction but nothing's changed apart from her field. Could a change of field have caused them do you think?
Sounds like an allergic reaction or fly/midge bites..... There may have been something in the field like a herb that doesn't agree with her. A steriod injection from your vet should alleviate the problem
There is so much of this about at the moment.
I had to have my lad totally clipped out in November his got infected and they had to be washed dwon in hibiscrub daily.
He still got them now
weve cut all of his food out trying to find out the cause. At the moent its looking like its wheat, but who knows
Hes been on antibiotics, bute fungi creams and antihistamins.
Ive found that the botter he is the worse they appear, hes out in a summer weight turnout rug and a cotton sheet at night when hes in, they have gonne down allot but there still there.
is coat is growing back and he hasnt been cold.
Is your lad itching, mine has if i take his rug off he bites himself
My horse gets these lumps at this time every year. My vet has always said it is an allergic reaction to dust mites in the bedding. So last year I put her on rubber matting and a minimal amount of bedding and touch wood she hasn't had any so far this year!! I also put a cotton summer sheet under all her rugs and this is changed and washed every 3 days. I always found that if she got too hot they were worse. Apparently this time of the year is the mites breeding season and so they increase in number. I try to keep the dust to a minimum in her stable as well. Don't know if anyone else has had this diagnosis for their horses lumps.
