'I tried some aloe vera gel on a patch of them on saturady night - come Sunday morning the patch was really swollen and hot - wont be doing that again soon! '

Aloe vera, although usually soothing and great for burns and sores, etc, does have quite a high content of salicylic acid, and hives is one of the known side effects of sensitivity to this. therefore it would make sense that skin already sensitised may react badly

Its great stuff, the first night he wasnt at all happy with me touching him. But this morning applying more cream he was settled - so obvioulsy realises its helping lol

Mum thankfully is good friend with the chemist of the Dr Surgery she works for. Im lucky because I get all the out of date human form of vet wrap which is better than the animal form, sticks better and its free lol
So I dont think getting more HC cream should be a problem - if you need some let me know

My mare came out in lumps and appeared more itchy (she loves a good scratch anyway!). I had a swab and hair pluck taken to the vets and tested as we initially thought ringworm (there was some small patches of hair loss) but the test came back negative for everything they tested for (ringworm, parasites, bacteria growth). The bumps have now gone down but I do think maybe it was the sudden mild weather that caused it, I feed her Ride and Relax as it's so far the best thing for her feedwise. I'm now a bit concerned about the forecasted cold snap next week, although I do have plenty of rugs of all weights (!) my mare is clipped and rugged accordingly but poor unclipped boy has been moulting like mad! Expect he'll be ok if I just move from lightweight to mediumweight and not be too hot or too cold...hopefully!
