Lumps, Bumps and Vets!!

Hi All,
Just had the vet out to have a look at my ponys eye, she has a small lump on her lower eyelid and the vet has confirmed my suspicion of a melenoma!! She has said that i will need to take my horse to the hospital and have it removed surgically. Wich i definatly would rather do than leave it to get worse or cause irritation for her.
Has anyone else experienced this? just wondering how long it takes to recover? and how long i should expect my horse to be out of work for, due to the eventing season quickly approaching. Thankyou

We had a horse with this. Vet did it in the field under Local. Made a good recovery and continued eventing, hunting a busy life for several more years.

However, when in foal with 2nd foal aged about 15, came back from the stud with a swelling under her jaw which turned out to be a tumour and she had to be PTS after Christmas as it was blocking her airway. Sad end for a really lovely horse.
