I have had the vet out already to my rising 3 year old Fell pony and he is now booked in to have an op to have some lumps removed. He has a sarcoid on his tummy but also has a lump surrounded by uneven tissue on his actual penis. It has grown quite quickly and vet is unsure what type of lump it is. Today I have found another patch of skin which has a cluster of uneven skin patches on his sheath.

Has anyone had this with their horse and what were your experiences. I have so many questions like Will they come back? Are they malignant? Will they need to amputate? and most importantly of all how is it going to effect him?

I have never heard of it in such a young pony so any info advice would be greatly appreciated. He really is such a sweetheart and want to do all I can for him but not if it compromises his quality of life.

Thanks for taking the time to read I know it's a bit long!

Some years ago my Dales pony (6 year old) got a couple of sarcoids on his penis which grew quite quickly over a couple of weeks. The vet suspected they were caused by fly bites.

Anyway he had them surgically removed under GA. He recovered really well and in the next 5 years I had him did not get any more sarcoids. Good luck with your chap.

My youngster developed a large lump on his penis, which we had surgically removed by the vet, he also had a couple of smaller lumps that disappeared on their own. That was over 3 years ago and they have not returned.

My beloved cob had that, initially was a couple of sarcoids on sheath thrn a lump on the penis

Due to his age (in his twenties) the vet ruled out surgery

Sadly a heat wave and the accompanying flies saw the lump swell to bigger than a cricket ball and it bled constantly so we had him PTS

I'd say in your case it's not doom and gloom though, keep the vets visits up and whatever you do DONT muck about with the lumps unless the vet has told you too

My boys initial lump was almost certainly aggravated by me trying to keep the sheath as clean as possible :(

My ID had two wartlike lumps come up on his sheath and two on his penis as a rising 3 year old, they were diagnosed as sarcoids, one that was growing on the end of the penis was banded, it fell off never to return, the warty things were left, have never increased in size and the other one on penis was an attempt at banding but it was too small so band fell off but it disappeared anyway.

Last year i spotted some pink moles on the outside of my 22year greys sheath after sedation it became apart he has several lumps on his penis one this size of a ping pong ball. I has these removed and have never had any other issues good luck hope everything goes well x
