Lumps under Jaw

Does anyone know what causes swellings under the central jaw line (about 8-10cms back from the mouth - they aqre about 3cms across and ball like. There are 2 of them.

Strangles??!

can just be an abcess but if there's 2 of them then i would call the vet for blood tests. there are loads of cases of strangles around at the moment so better to be sure.

are they boney lumps? how old is the horse?

The said horse is in her 20s, they are soft to the touch, and too far forward for strangles TBH (well i hope!) - not my horse thou. They are under where the bit would lie in the mouth, but on the underside of the head.

Could be a apical (root) infection/abcess of the tooth. Get the teeth checked to rule it out.

dont worry yourself with thinking its strangles!

Thanks, was getting a bit worried as horse turned out with lots of others (and mine!!).

i had a 4yo with a lump and it was an infected tooth

unlikely to be an abcess if there's 2 of them though surely??
