my friend and i have recently taken over a yard where we have inhereted a little grey pony that was abandonned there! this is no problem and we are happy to keep the pony until the owners return (if ever) but we have noticed that it has 2 rather large lumps on it face. the lumps are on the ponys cheek bones, & my friend thinks it could be something to do with its teeth not developing properly, as it only looks like a 2 - 3 yr old. we are reluctant to call the vet as it is not our pony and is not in any pain. has anyone seen this before?

young horses can get lumps under their jaw when they are teething and they are nothing to worry about.

I remember a pony at our yard who would get food stuck up inside her cheeks when she ate, her owner would have to stick her finger up there every couple of days and pull it out, could it be that? If you don't know how he'll take to having his mouth fiddled with, try from the outside to ease it down towards the corners of his mouth first, if it moves, you'll know that's what it is!

i dont think it could be food cos the lumps seem to be quite hard but i'll have a look, thankyou
