Cheeky has gone completely mental. Hacked him over the weekend, and he was a cross between a squirrel and a JA pony. Snorting, constantly jogging/ spooking/ prancing/ plunging and generally being a tit. We trotted and he did cantering on the spot with mini rears as he went to cahnge legs in front. Jumped some logs (2' max) and he did a sort of karate chop jump, with his front legs like a ninjas. We stopped to chat to the lady who owns my sister's 9yo TB who has been off ork or 2 years, having come straight from the racetrack, and while Regie stood stock still, Cheeky spun in circles, trottedon the spot and twitted about. I have no control.

Sad thing? He's 25, soon to be 26, and meant to be slowing down! He came to us to take it a bit steadier, yet we've decided this year I won't hunt as I no longer have any brakes!

I swear he's got faster!! Love him, and he's unbeatable in the jump-offs, but there are days when I just feel it would be safer to hobble him, and then give hima large dose of sedative! He'll be worse after his clip- he's convinced he's going hunting, and every Saturday at 11 he's getting hopelessly overexcited.

aww bless him thats good that he's feeling well and he obviously likes to show it...and why not!
I'm also struggling to keep hold of 13.1 mare she's so strong but i have to insist on her walking in aid of her recovery...she loves her work but cant ride for quite some time yet...
the older ones are the ones with the brains..imo...you just cant beat them lol

I love the oldies, our Sec D did a vetren in hand class and decided it would be fun to enter the ring on hind legs squealing, the judge then pointed out this is a vetren class to which we replied he's 26, he did win the class.

He loves to put on a show, we have had some interesting days hunting when he was 20 plus and fun rides were hairraising, he can also trot as fast as the horses around him are cantering.

Sounds exactly as my boy Ali - 25yr old arab - bloomin bonkers! Love it!!

I love to hear all these stories of oldies still going strong! I have a 23 year old and she's always been a steady eddie so i am afraid I have no hair raising stories to tell, but its great to think that she could still have a few years of happy working life left in her.

I was thrown out a veteran class because he was behaving so badly! We'd just come 2nd in a WH class, and had to do a rather fast lap of honour staright into the verterans where we were all trotting rather sedately. Apart from Cheeky that is, who was boucing up and down, neighing and kept overtaking looking like a crazed alpaca...

Anyone who thinks its sweet- have him! :P
Nah, he's worth his weight in gold and doesn't owe us a penny. Gave me my confidence back, and is as honest and genuine over jumps as you can get.

Lucy is nearly 20 and we hunt every week leading a 6 year old on her pony. Last week we where cantering across a field with everyone else and i suddenly realised we where getting faster poor dudleys little legs where hardly touching the ground. I tried to pull up but nothing happened we just continued to accelerate! Luckly we reached the end of the field before i had to let go of the pony and the chiled didn't realise i had no controll. The rest of the day lucy lept in the air and treatened to buck. Dudley was a star and i wondered which of the two is only 4 and was only broken in may! But i would be sad if lucy acted her age.

All of these stories have made my day and I am smiling inside and out

My bay was 16 this year and I get the blues he's getting older! He's a weee bit silly too! He thinks he's the driver! Thought that I would be settling him down and retiring him over the next few years.... but your posts have filled me with hope!

My 20 year old decided to wave her front legs at the judge several times in the last veteran class she did. I was mortified luckily the judge found it funny.

Reminds me of a thirty year old pony I used to ride many moons ago. He had been a JA pony in his youth. His reins still had the knots in depending on how strong he was feeling. Was an absolute hoot to ride, could still drop a shoulder with the best of them

My oldest two are the same. Buzzing about like lunatics. Furthermore they are now outraged about the disruption to their schedule due to the clocks changing.
Sometimes I am glad they can't talk, they would be ranting away right now.
