I lunged new bucking horse today - it bucks every single time going into canter on the lunge either with or without a saddle, on both reins, just the same as it did when I was riding it.

I couldnt canter because they didnt have a school or any off road riding so they said I could have it on a weeks trial (other long long post about this yesterday - Sorry I am getting really boring on the subject!)

oh right...i did reply to that post.....

i didn't realise you hadn't actually tried it out thoroughly though....

I think you misunderstood me, Im not bored, I am frantic with worry and feel sick about it. I dont have £3000 to tear up. I was just apologising to you lot in case you were all getting bored with me going on about it.

Why bother asking for help then if you are bored ? I dont get it , people only trying to give you advice !

Bloody hell - calm down - think you misread what she wrote!

You're not being boring - it's obviously a pretty major thing you're dealing with. For the sake of a physio coming out I'd want to spend that money and see if it can be cured.

Only thing is, I thought a 5 stage involved cantering? or am I imagining that?

Could be a pure schooling issue - I'm sure you said she canters on the straight - sounds like a possible unbalanced horse to me....

If OM has no intention of keeping the horse, then surely it is best to return it without incurring extra costs? It's bad enough possibly losing £1.5k.

i would of thought so.
put it down to experience.

She meant she's boring us on the subject. Doesn't sound right TBH and I think they've pulled the wool over your eyes I'm sorry to say. There's obviously a real reason they didn't let you canter her. When I tried my mare I hired a school so I could try her out properly.
How about trading standards to get all your money back???

Easy tiger!

That wasn't what she said

small claims court can be used against private sellers too.....

[/ QUOTE ]

mmmm, yes that's true but she didnt actually give the horse a complete trial..very tricky this one.

Yes I'm sure a 5 stage vetting includes at least 20 mins of fast work. What does it say on the vet certificate, were you (OP) not there when the horse was vetted?

I hate this why should this person loose £1.5k on a horse which clearly isn't as described there's too many rogues out there. One dealer I know of keeps a horse knowing the problems. Sells it on to some poor sole and then buys it back cheaper. £1.5k for one weeks work isn't bad

Too many people I know have been ripped off on horses it makes me mad

I wouldn't be surpised if this person was a dealer posing as a private seller. Cynical moi

Am I right in thinking the seller would only give 1500 back because she had spent the rest and therefore didn't have it to give?

Could you not return the horse take the money but get it in writing that she repays the other 1500 when she sells him again (because of course if he is as sound as she says he'll sell again easy

Maybe get old owner to come and ride the horse. If she seems at all unwilling to climb on board to canter the horse, then you have your answer!

fantastic idea.

I think your first thing is to put it in writing.

Further to my purchase of *** and our subsequent telephone conversation, I feel the need to put my grievance in writing.

I believe that the horse was missold to me and is in fact dangerous (state what she's doing). This horse is not fit for the purpose intended and as such I am seeking a full refund from you in return for the horse.

You need to state whether or not the trial was verbal and if not, where it's written (and enclose a copy).

You can't actually say that they knowingly sold you a dodgy horse but you can imply it.

Alot of people try it on until you get militant - give her 14 days to come up with a satisfactory solution or you'll be going to the small claims court. etc etc....

Trying it on I reckon. Bet she coughs up when you put it in writing.

Come on Kent folk, is there anyone over there that can help Oldmare out and go and have a look and lend a hand - poor thing is going out of her mind with worry here?

Oldmare you're not boring us at all, obviously a big concern to you, you've handed over £3k for a pony that isn't (as yet) the nice novice bombproof pony you thought, however, if she is bucking on the lunge at least you know it's not personal! I think I would get her back looked at and then start thinking about schooling her, getting her confidence on a circle before you try cantering on a circle again, in the mean time do you know a good jockey who would take her out for a canter in a straight line, if she is okay on a straight line then you know it is a schooling issue which is easier to solve, you never know the old owner may have been a real muppet and given the mare a hard time and not really allowed her to canter properly..

It does, as the vet has to check the heart etc after strenuous exercise. The horse must have been ridden hard for the vetting, (I don't like watching that bit).

Young horses will try it on in a new environment but it really sounds like the horse has been misrepresented. I totally hope you get some kind of resolution to this

Thats might be a good idea. If I can get it in writing that she pays the balance within a certain amount of time it might be the best plan. After all I am looking like losing £1500 anyway so this way I might just get the rest back (except I dont trust her as far as I can throw her!). I bought the horses saddle at the same time. Do you think I should hang onto that? Its quite valuable (18" Ideal show saddle, suede seat etc)
