Lunged new horse this morning, goes fine to the right but very difficult to the left, keeps turning in after a few steps and without a helper I was unable to drive him forward without the possibility of him landing on me! Any suggestions of why he could be doing this being as though he goes ok to the right? Could he be stiff that side or just being plain naughty. He does have a bit of attitude, kicks at the whip when he first starts off.

he spins round and tries to go the left way. I have put it down to when he was getting broken they just did him one way all the time.

I know all horses have a better rein but we should concentrate on both.

What I did last night was put the lunge rein on him and walked around with him, I slowly moved in to the middle of the circle, After a few attempts I had him going round real nice yipeee

Practice and confidence. My mare used to come in all the time but all it took was a positive body posture and a few cracks of the lunge whip and now she goes beautifully. Can you ask someone at your yard who is more confident to show you? I just needed to be assertive
