Has anyone ever used the Libbys Lungie Bungie?? Am considering trying it to help with my boy's topline. Any opinions, good or bad would be appreciated.
If it's the one I'm thinking of, i.e. goes from poll, through bit rings then either to the girth staps or between the fron legs then I think it depends on your expertise as a lunger. All it does is encourage the horse into an 'outline' in front, this can and usually does, bring most horses onto the forehand, creating a false outline. If you are confident that you can keep the impulsion from behind so that the horse still works into the bridle and over his back then it can definately help in encouraging a horse down into a more correct way of going and would probably be fine
Thanks for the reply, but the one you're thinking of is just an elastic training rein. The Lungie Bungie doesn't go over the poll, there's an attachment with a sliding ring that clips onto both sides of the bit, the elastic part of the bungie threads through the sliding ring and clips onto both sides of the roller or saddle. It is adjustable as the horse develops and is supposed to ensure equal contact on both rings. Hope that makes sense!
Just looks like elasticated side reins, Again you will still need to ensure that the hindleg is stepping under and working correctly, otherwise its just as jojoeena says.
I personally like these and use it on both my mares. Bought it because first mare is quite stroppy and knew she wouldn't like anything around her back legs or anything trappy going between her front legs. Like it and she works well so now I use it on both
I LOVE my lungie bungie. It has made an enormous difference to both my young horse and 2 other horses. I hate the idea of side reins as they are so rigid and stiff. The lungie bungie is great because there is so much flexibility with it. I play around with where I attach it to the roller/saddle to stretch the horses in different ways. If your horses is likely to have a buck and a kick of the heels in the beginning I would start it on the bottom ring of the roller. I now lungie might with it connected to the girth buckles so it sits just above the elbow. This really encourages them to stretch down and soften their whole topline. I have also ridden my older horse in it to help improve lightness and self carriage and have known people to break youngsters in wearing it.
