What are everyone's opinions on different lunging aids? What do you think are the pros and cons to certain ones? I'm interested to see if everyone's opinions are similar or not.

I've always lunged mine without any aids at all.

The only thing I do is use a dually as I find it is better to lunge off that than a cavesson or bridle but that's personal preference.

When I was trying to build up Lari's core I used a pessoa but every now and again he'd go mental on the lunge - he has always been very reactive due to his issues and it was too dangerous to continue as I was scared he was going to get his leg over the pessoa so I stopped and used the equiband type of system.

I'm not specifically asking the question with a certain aim in mind for my own particular horses. I'm just interested to know for knowledge purposes what people's beliefs are on the pros and cons of the different lunging aids.

Only thing I use is elasticated side reins but going down between the legs. To encourage cob to stretch down. But now he knows the score I just use a bridle and lunge rein.

I don’t use lunge aids, but I use two lunge lines and a roller. I have the line furthest away from me going around the hindquarters rather that over the back as some people use.

I prefer this method as it allows me to have more control over one who occasionally does a spin and tank off to the gate manoeuvre. Also I think it gets a more consistent contact rather than having one line threaded over the headpiece and thought the bit.
