Lunging Problems

S is very good generally & lunges perfectly with other people but with me, it is a different story.

Other people lunge her & she goes away to work with no problems & really settles but with me she just will not leave & go out into the circle. She will come right up to me & will follow me with her nose between my shoulder blades given half the chance.

I've tried being firm with her, using my voice as well as the whip & she just will not go out into the circle

I've tried leading her out, making her stand & sending her on slowly stepping back & she will still come off the circle & to me.

I don't know why she does this with me & not others.

She isn't threatening or nasty, she literally comes up & rests her nose on my shoulders or will walk very close to me.

I don't mind it but it obviously isn't practical & it would be nice if she lunged with me as she does with other people

Has anybody else had this problem & if you have, how did you overcome it?

You need to be more assertive!

You say you don't mind - and that's OK - but then she'll never do it.

Just be firm and clear about what you want, and don't worry - she will still come and be with you when you've finished 'sending her away'.
 
Use two reins and ensure the outside one keeps her out, at the same time send her forwards with the whip, you should not need to use it other than to touch her behind the girth as an encouragement.
She is trying to join up with you that's all, but you have to be more assertive.
Once she's moving aim to make a triangle with her head at the front and you as another corner and the whip aimed at her hindquarters as the third point.
 


Thanks guys. Think it could well be the body language as I'm firm with my voice & I do keep the 'triangle' in mind.

It's just blooming annoying when all she wants to do is cuddle!
