Have just started lunging Merel, we were told she has been long reined but TBH I don't think she has done very much if at all.

We have started by my mum lunging and me walking on the outside with a leadrope on her headcollar. At first we brought out a lunge whip and she absolutely freaked out when it was picked up, so we abandoned that idea for now(I wonder whether someone has used a 'carrot stick' on her!).

So then we tried without and she acts very strange on the left rein, she will walk, at varying paces and if my mum flips the end of the rein up Merel either stops dead and stares at my mum or runs forward. However on the right rein she will walk perfectly and not even notice what my mum is doing......could something nasty have happened on the left rein that she's remembering?

Any suggestions on what it could be and how to get her over it?

Cookies (and pickled onions) if you got this far!

That's was our original thought and have done simple test like the vets do by clicking in front of her eyes etc and she responds to these the same with both eyes.

She doesn't have any problems seeing fences, feed buckets etc either.
